Bulking and Foaming
We have wide ranging experience in the causes and control of activated sludge bulking and foaming. However, we hasten to add that these are rarely problems experienced in our process designed plants.
We are most often engaged to resolve problems arising where process designers experienced in designing treatment plants for other types of effluents, design leachate treatment plants.
The most frequent example where problems occur is that of sewage treatment (sanitation engineers) transposing sewage treatment design criteria to leachate and assuming that they have sufficient knowledge to do so without specialist experience of leachate treatment.
If bulking and foaming does occur it is invariably curable, although the possible causes are many.
Often the cause of bulking and foaming is known; the leachate strengths and/or flows have grown beyond reasonable expectations of the existing leachate treatment plant. The plant may be simply be too small.
Enviros very rapidly assesses the capability of existing leachate plants and advises whether capital investment is needed, or whether simple “quick-win” improvements can provide a low cost upgrade.
